  1. Waiting for the last one(s)… • Have you ever/ or will face the problem of breaking the ice in a team of people who don’t know its other? • Have you seen “Borat” or “Bruno”? • Do you have a favorite ice-breaking game? • Have you seen “Eyes wide shut” (Kubrick)???

  2. Masks as Icebreakers An experiment made by EESTEC during “Bio-improve your life”and turned out to become a tool : ) On behalf of eestec: Panos Symvoulidis

  3. Framework of the idea • Eestec: Electrical Engineering Student’s European assoCiation ways to make engineers social aware and orient their research with greater needs and good • Workshop: “bio-improve your life”implementation of technology for people with special needs 30 participants (+local students) 13 promoters 7 days  tight schedule  no time to spend on icebreaking

  4. Needs behind of the idea • Quick and effective • Funny and effective…

  5. welcome event  icebreaking welcome party Theme (costume) welcome party  JUNGLE PARTY !

  6. Photos…

  7. Some results… • Everyone remembered each other maybe not as Andres but as Kung-Fu Panda… • The were randomly changing groups rather than creating 2-3 fixed sub-groups • The less social participants, where approached by the other member with the “excuse” of first nights happening…

  8. Why was this a success? • Easy first-line : )“you are a great (pause)… What RU?” • Feel-free to express (it is not you that is “getting embarrassed” but your role)a big hug from a fluffy bear is always acceptable • more emphasized differs the hippo-giraffe is clearer than Tom-Thomas • Chances for personal 1-1 moments the moments of preparation for example

  9. Possible (???) dangers • “Discrimination” of no/bad costumes • Costume as a “protection wall” –hide behind the “persona” • Keeping the “role” after the end of the party

  10. Tip&Tricks • Easy- wide costume theme • Have some accessories/body or face paints for the not-prepared • Ask them to choose wisely costume: Role=Name/Characteristic • Modify the ice-breakers

  11. On behalf of EESTEC thank you for your: -time -feedback -expansion ideas 10Q : ) For further information/communication: symvou@gmail.com (personal) eestec.ntua.gr (Athens) eestec.net (International)

  12. Quiz??? Question: Why we choose this theme? Real Answer: Google result at “ppt theme mask” Best Answer: ________________ (\\able to support why the presenter preferred some quality time with the participants of TF4 rather than finding the appropriate background.: ) thank you personally for time and the needed excuses 
