  4. Monitoring system • We’ve had a brocade of outages in recent times  • This has lead to improvements to monitoring and our set-up • Monitoring systems are never done! • More ‘protective’ set-up

  5. New optical platform • Decision to buy new platform • Based on MRV equipment • To be deployed between member connections and the switches • The big gains: • Efficient use of our dark fibre infrastructure • Enables switch vendor independent optics for inter-switch links • Supports move to 8x10G linecards for ISLs

  6. Move to VPLS • Architectural review in 2010 • Firm decision to move to VPLS from ring-based architecture • Implementation delayed by recent events • Expect to complete this summer
