The First Crusade • The most successful Crusade for the Christians • Also known as the People’s Crusade • Led by Count Raymond IV • Supportedby many wandering preachers Wandering Preacher Peter the Hermit

Results • The crusades are known as a “successful failure” • The Christians lost the Holy Lands • Monarchies flourished • Papal power grew briefly • Warring fleets were converted into merchant’s boats • Trade grew significantly • Crusaders brought back many trade items and the economy flourished
