Make sure you use Times New Roman (TNR) font size 12 • Numbers less than 10 need to be in words – six, nine, four. Numbers 10 and larger must be in digits – 19, 2365. • The word “well” – don’t use it unless you are talking about water from the well • Use a punctuation mark only once – • not !!!
Underline the title of the book every time you use it, not just the first time • Don’t use + for the word ‘and’ • Don’t begin a sentence with the word “And” • Be specific about the kind of fiction: historical fiction, realistic fiction, science fiction – don’t just say fiction
9. Know the difference between the words loose and lose: • You will lose your netbook if you don’t keep it in your locker or backpack. • My pants are too loose and they keep falling down. • HINT: You lose an ‘o’ in lose.
10. Know the difference between the words steal/steel/still • The thief wanted to steal my netbook. • The lockers are made of steel but you can still dent them with a hard kick. • I am still waiting for you to finish your story.
11. Don’t use UPPERCASE letters for a word unless it is an acronym like FBI or ECA.
