  2. Prepositions A preposition is a word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to some other word in a sentence.

  3. Prepositions Prepositions begin phrases that end with a noun or pronoun that is called the object of the preposition. • The silverware is inside the cabinet. • All the guests arrived beforedinner. • He bought a gift for the host.

  6. Prepositions • A prepositional phrase acts in the same way an adjective or an adverb does. • Used as an adjective, a prepositional phrase modifies a noun or a pronoun. • Used as an adverb, a prepositional phrase modifies a verb, an adjective, or an adverb.
