  2. Life • one of the most prominent of the 20th century English realistic writers, was born of an upper middle-class family. He studied law at Oxford, but after practicing the law for a short time, he turned to literature. • In 1905 he married Ada, the divorced wife of his cousin. He showed deep sympathy for the unhappy life of Ada's first marriage and reflected these experiences in his novels. • he was preoccupied with the social injustice in his time He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1932.
