  2. What are we learning? • Why the School Improvement Plan is important…

  3. Why are we learning it? • So we can adopt our School Improvement Plan as a way to close the achievement gap. • To see how the School Improvement Plan correlates with Mychal Wynn’s beliefs.

  4. What is the definition of a vision? • A vision statement serves as a guideline for the future. It simply answers the question, “Where do we want to go?”bizsuccess.kudzu.com/ • A vision statement outlines what a school wants to be. Why do schools have to have a School Improvement Plan? • It is a Title I document that contains all the components of a Title I school. • Without a shared vision, there is no way for a school to articulate its sense of purpose. • Developing a shared vision helps to provide focus, clarity, and guide the school-wide improvement efforts. • It is a shared vision that helps guide the teachers and support staff.

How is the “Vision” related to our School Improvement Plan • Reaching state goals and proficiency, achieving and establishing goals: academic goals • Achieving potential: PBS Behavior • Providing actualizing experiences: Around the World in 180 Days • Developing Operational Strategies: Safety Goal (Fire Drills, Lock Downs) Page 129

What a Vision is “Not”? • “Let’s just get them out of here.” • “Our school is low performing because we have so many students on free and reduced lunch.” • “So many of our students live in poverty and are below grade level that it is an unrealistic expectation to believe that they can attend college.” • “If parents would do more, we could teach more of our students to read.” • “You don’t understand the students in this community.   8. It’s not just Mr. Coleman and Mrs. Harris… • The administrators’ responsibility to the students is to empower the staff to engage them to be the best educators that they can.

  9. Ultimately … it is the staff and community members! • What the staffand community believes will be reflected within our school’s printed and internalized vision. • A school’s vision comes from what the staff and communitywants the students to achieve and their expectations of the students.
