INFECTIOUS DISORDERS • Conjunctivitus: inflammation of conjunctiva • S & S: reddened and edematous conjunctiva • Causes • Age group at risk • Collaborative care/Nursing Management • Medications
ALTERED VISUAL FUNCTIONING • Strabismus: inward/outward eye deviation • Amblyopia: eyes appear misaligned • S&S: -closes 1 eye to see - squinting & frowning when reading -dizziness - headache
CARE OF ALTERED VISUAL FUNCTIONING • Collaborative Care/ Nursing Management -Pediatrician, parents, school nurse • Treatment -occlusion therapy - compensatory lenses -surgery (strabismus) -vision therapy

ORGANIZATION TO PREVENT BLINDNESS IN AMERICA • Prevent ultraviolet light (uv) rays for children • Sunscreen • Eye protection • WHO states up to 80% of a person’s lifetime UV exposure is received before age 18
NURSING DIAGNOSIS • Sensory /Perception Alteration(Visual) r/t altered transmission of impulses • Risk for Injury r/t impaired vision • Risk for altered Growth and Development r/t impaired vision
