  2. Introduction • Third-party data services • Distribution of data from satellites which are not (co-) operated by EUMETSAT (METEOSAT, METOP, Jason-2, Sentinel-3) and not part of the JTS/IJPS (NOAA-19).

  3. Third-Party Data Services & Data Distribution • NRT data come from various organisations (CMA, CNES, ESA, ISRO, JAXA, JMA, NASA, NOAA, NSOAS, ROSHYDROMET) • The selection and priority setting of data which EUMETSAT tries to make available is done by the STG-OPSWG. • Data reception is done by the satellite provider or on behalf of the satellite provider. • Data policy and data ownership remains with the provider. • Raw data processing is in most cases done by the satellite providers. • Data are transferred to EUMETSAT in various ways (dedicated lines, RMDCN, Internet, ...) using various protocols.

Third-Party Data Services & Data Distribution • Depending on user demands EUMETSAT can reformat or tailor the data. • Data dissemination is done via EUMETCast, in some cases also via GTS. • Archiving is usually not done by EUMETSAT but by the data provider. It can be done on request. • The registration for the reception of 3rd party data follows the same principles as for other EUMETSAT data through the Product Navigator. • Availability and timeliness of data is mostly determined by the data provider.

  8. GEO third-party data services (3)GOES-16 data service Dissemination of GOES-16 image data started on 10 May 2017 (30 min, 15 channels [not channel 1] at 2km resolution)

  9. GEO third-party data services (4)Electro-L N2 data service 3.8 µ 8.7 µ 6.4 µ 8.7 µ 8.0 µ 10.7 µ Electro-L N2 data are being provided to EUMETSAT by ROSHYDROMET in NRT. These data will be made available by EUMETCast in the coming weeks.

  10. Low Earth Orbit Satellites (Third-Party Data Services/Dissemination) • Microwave Sounder products from CMA’s FY-3B and FY-3C (only provided to National Met. Services and ECMWF) • Level 1, 2 and 3 products derived from data of the MODIS instrument on NASA’s Terra & Aqua satellites • SSMIS reformatted BUFR products derived from sounder data of the DoD’s DMSP satellites F16 and F17 • SMOS NRT BUFR light products are derived from the MIRAS on-board ESA’s SMOS satellite • SARAL: early dissemination to all users of pre-operational products started 23-July-2013 • Sensor Data Records (SDR) from NOAA’s SNPP satellite

Operations and services: availability of services Third Party Data Services • Meteor-M N2 • MTVZA-GY: Data are being received from ROSHYDROMET and redistributed in NRT via EUMETCast • IKFS-2: Data are being provided by ROSHYDROMET in NRT. Because the Meteor-M N2 orbit is close to Metop, the data are of limited value despite good quality • ADM-Aeolus • Service agreed with production at ECMWF and redistribution via EUMETCast • HY-2 timeliness • Aquisition of selected orbits (~7 per day) from FMI ground station in Sodankylä • Transfer of raw data to NSOAS in Beijing via EUMETSAT in Darmstadt • Pilot service will be run for 6 months to demonstrate usefulness
