  4. In 1938, while he was still in school, he sold everything he owned and invested it in a little workshop where he began to develop his concept of a piston ring – a new design approach to car manufacturing • He wanted to sell his work to Toyota corporation, so he labored day and night: • Always having his elbow in grease • Sleeping in the machine workshop • Always believing he could produce the result • Deposited his wife’s Jewelry as collateral foe loan just to stay on in his dream concept • But when he finally completed the piston rings and presented them to Toyota Corporation; He was told they didn’t meet the Toyota Standards • He was sent back to school for 2years, where he heard scornful and degrading laughter of his teachers and fellow students jesting about his absurd designs. WAS HE DISCOURAGED OR OFFENDED? NO! HE FOCUSED ON HIS GOAL! Robins Begg Consulting Ltd.

  5. Finally after 2 more years, Toyota corporation gave Mr. Honda the contract he had dreamed of – the rights and permission to build a factory and manufacture his idea of a car. • But just around this time. The Japanese government was preparing for a major war. He needed concretes to build his factory and the Japanese government refused to release concretes for his work. WAS HE OFFENDED OR DISCOURAGED? NO • He decided to utilize the experience and develop a new strategy. He and his team invented a process for creating their own concrete then build their factory. • During the war, the factory they struggled and suffered to build was bombed twice by the American government, destroying part of the factory and some manufacturing equipment. DID HE GIVE UP? NO • He immediately rallied his team and they picked up the extra petrol TANKs that the American fighter had discarded calling them Gifts from President Truman – Because they provided them with manufacturing materials that were very scarce in Japan at this time. Robins Begg Consulting Ltd.

  6. After surviving all these challenges, an earthquake destroyed the whole of his factory! DID HE FINALLY GIVE UP? NO. He simply sold the whole manufacturing rights of his designs to Toyota Corporation. • But after the war, Terrible petrol shortage hit Japan and most people including Mr. Honda could not afford to drive their cars –even to buy food for their families. • Finally in desperation, he attached a small mechanical motor to his bicycle – TO MAKE IT SPEED UP WITHOUT CONSUMING MUCH ENERGY! (Motorized Bicycles or Motor-bikes) • Most of his neighbors began to demand that he should help them make a motor bike and pay him to do so. The demand grew so much that he decided to build A MOTOR CYCLE MANUFACTURING COMPANY – called Honda Corporation. • It became an instant success! Oh was it really instant? A breakthrough momentum of all previous efforts. • They began to export to USA and other parts of the world. He later build a Car Company of his dreams Robins Begg Consulting Ltd.

  7. Key Ingredients for Innovation and Greatness of Mr. Honda • He discovered his aptitude for machine, engines or engineering. Notice that all his efforts were focused on just one area of special interest or ability. Dr. Katherine Benzinger’s Brain Research • In her research on brain, talents and energy consumption, she used the brain scan technology called the Positrons Emission Technology (PET) to find out the relationship between: • Talent Utilization • Brain Hemispheric Specialisations • Brain Energy Consumption Efficiency Robins Begg Consulting Limited

  21. Dr. Katherine Benzinger’s Brain Research - Discovery • Four major quadrants of the brain are directly linked to specific talent groups or dominant intelligence class • All the four quadrants of the brain are not equally developed. The quadrants representing the person talents or dominant intelligence have pre-developed advantage with respect to energy consumption and utilisation • When a person is engaged in work or activities in their pre-developed or talent quadrants they consume less energy. • The energy utilization efficiency is about 36 times/hour or 288 times/8 hour workday in favour of a person operating in the area of talent or dominant intelligence.
