Let’s Talk SEN(D) Conference results and feedback
Overall….. • 90% of the young people felt they could get involved in activities • 80% of the young people felt they had their say • 87% of the young people felt listened to
Best part of the day…. • 60% of young people thought the best bit about the day was workshop 2 and all the fun activities that they could take part in. • Five of the young people thought that meeting new people and getting to socialise with the other schools was the best part of the day. • 2 young people thought writing something all about themselves on the one page profile was the best part as they got to learn more about themselves. • Other young people thought best bits were: listening to others, the videos and expressing their thoughts on Trafford.
Worst part of the day • 63% of the young people thought that there was no worst bit about the day and that they liked everything. • Not all activities catered to all needs • 2 young people thought that it was too crowded and that there were too many people there. • 2 thought that there was too much writing. • Other young people thought negative parts of the day were that they didn’t get the chance to meet everybody there and that there could have been more stalls around the venue.
What did they learn? • 4 young people said that they had learnt about jobs/apprenticeships and what they can do in the future. • 4 young people wrote about the activities that they had taken part in e.g. drumming, drama etc. • Several young people learnt that there was lots of help and support available to them. • Other responses included: Youth Cabinet, What other people with SEND are doing, What other people think about me, You can make friends easily, How to express my feelings, How to work with different people.
What would they like to know more about? • Most of the responses were that young people wanted to know more about what activities they could get involved in such as art, drama, animation and anything else that goes on in Trafford. • Jobs/apprenticeships • How many people receive help from CYPS and how many more people can receive it. • What school support is available and where to get advice for entering higher education
SEND Conference – Feedback from Manor High • All the students really enjoyed and engaged with the conference. • Both staff thought it excellent and it was pitched well for our students, although the first workshop ended up being a lot of writing which with a different group of the students could have been an issue. • It was very useful for staff to be able to take away all the different templates. • The students particularly loved the second group of workshops and got a lot out of those. • They enjoyed the opportunity to mix with other students and ended up being quite social and independent. • An excellent idea and we would love to be involved with another.
