An online Graduate Course is available as a follow-up to this workshop! The graduate course is offered by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and taught by experienced instructors provided by Practical Course. • Practical course ii workshops:- In this advanced 4-day workshop, you’ll not only add dozens of new learner-centered strategies to your toolbox, you’ll also learn the essential skills for effectively designing and facilitating learner-centered experiences of any length…from an hour to a semester. Like the Practical Course I Workshop, this workshop is held at retreat centers on both coasts of the United States. An online Graduate Course is also available as a follow-up to this workshop! The graduate course is offered by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and taught by experienced instructors provided by Practical Course • Practical course introductory workshops:- One-Day Introductory Practical Course Workshops are held at college campuses across the country and are offered as drive-in events for educators in the region (though there are hotels near each campus, if needed). These workshops provide a foundation in learner-centered education as well as practical and proven educational strategies that participants can use immediately with their students.

Introductory Workshop a. 1-DAY WORKSHOP :-   The 1-day workshop provides a foundation in learner-centered education as well as practical and proven educational strategies that participants can use immediately with their students. At the end of the workshop, participants develop a specific plan to implement one or more strategies learned in the workshop. To extend their learning beyond the workshop, participants receive access to a web source of hundreds of innovative ways the workshop strategies have been employed by other educators across the curriculum. • SESSION 1: CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCCESSFUL STUDENTSUnderstanding eight qualities that distinguish students who are successful in college from those who struggle. • SESSION 2: STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING STUDENT ENGAGEMENTDefining the characteristics of learner-centered education, exploring the evidence from educational neuroscience and classroom research, and experiencing learner-centered structures and strategies that lead to deep and lasting learning. • SESSION 3: STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING STUDENT EMPOWERMENTExploring non-cognitive strategies that empower students to thrive in a learner-centered environment, helping them reach more of their potential in higher education…and beyond. • SESSION 4: ADDING TO YOUR LEARNER-CENTERED TOOLBOXParticipants each design a personal plan to implement one or more of the nearly 100 learner-centered strategies provided in the workshop, as well as learning about the extensive Practical Course resources for supporting their ongoing efforts after the workshop to improve student learning, academic success and retention.

  10. b. 2-DAY WORKSHOP :- Like the shorter 1-day workshop, the 2-day workshop provides a foundation in learner-centered education and provides participants with practical and proven educational strategies they can implement immediately with their students. However, because of the additional time, the number of learner-centered strategies is more than doubled. At the end of the workshop, participants develop a specific plan to implement one or more strategies learned in the workshop. SESSION 4: PROMOTING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SELF-MOTIVATIONStrategies for empowering students to take responsibility for being full partners in the quest for their education and discover their own intrinsic motivation for academic achievement, thus promoting greater perseverance when they encounter inevitable challenges in college or elsewhere in their lives. • SESSION 5: PROMOTING SELF-MANAGEMENTStrategies for empowering students to make wise choices regarding their time, choosing purposeful and persistent actions necessary to stay on course to their goals and dreams. • SESSION 6: PROMOTING INTERDEPENDENCE AND SELF-AWARENESSStrategies for empowering students to develop mutually supportive relationships necessary for achieving most of life’s lofty goals, including success in higher education, as well as developing an understanding of unconscious beliefs and habitual behaviors that sabotage their success. • SESSION 7: PROMOTING LIFE-LONG LEARNINGStrategies for empowering students to develop critical and creative thinking skills that lead to deep and lasting learning. • SESSION 8: ADDING TO YOUR LEARNER-CENTERED TOOLBOXParticipants each design a personal plan to implement one or more of the nearly 200 learner-centered strategies provided in the workshop, as well as learning about the extensive On Course resources for supporting their ongoing efforts after the workshop to improve student learning, academic success and retention.

  12. 2. Comprehensive Workshops a. Practical course i workshop (3-day):- Our flagship workshop, this is the same event as the highly acclaimed Practical Course I Workshops that have been offered since 1996 at conference centers throughout India. A long list of  reveals the powerful impact this workshop has had on past participants. While this 3-day workshop presents the same foundational principles as the 1- and 2-day workshops, the strategies presented in this workshop are different and the extended schedule provides an immersion in learning-centered education that brings about significant changes in the way participants interact with students. Participants leave with literally dozens of proven strategies that they can implement immediately. • Additionally, participants are provided a source of hundreds of innovative ways that the workshop strategies have been employed by other educators across the curriculum (from Advising to Zoology and all educational roles in between). Another very positive outcome of the interactive nature of the workshop is the creation of community among participants that lasts long after the event has ended. After the workshop, expect workshop participants to be informed, inspired, and rejuvenated! • Graduate Course Option: Attendees who participate in the entire workshop are eligible to enroll in a 3-credit online graduate course offered by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and taught by instructors provided by On Course. ON COURSE II WORKSHOP (4-DAY):(An advanced workshop in designing and facilitating learner-centered educational experiences):- • PREREQUISITE: Completion of an Practical Course I Workshop. • At the Practical Course I Workshop, participants learn dozens of strategies for empowering students to become active, responsible learners. At this advanced On Course II Workshop, participant not only add more than 100 student-empowerment strategies to their repertoire, they also learn the essential design and facilitation skills necessary for being an effective learner-centered educator who can empower students to move from superficial to deep learning. These advanced design and facilitation skills also provide the knowledge and resources for participants to help colleagues provide more effective educational experiences for their students. The skills presented in this workshop are drawn from best practices in academic curriculum design, brain research, learning styles, active-learning principles, corporate training methodology, and personal development strategies. This workshop is ideal for educators who want to help students become active, responsible learners and/or you want to take a leadership role in helping their college or university become more learner-centered! • Graduate Course Option: Attendees who participate in the entire workshop are eligible to enroll in a 3-credit online graduate course offered by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and taught by instructors provided by Practical Course. •  ON COURSE II WORKSHOP AGENDA: • SESSION 1: GETTING ON COURSEReviewing the characteristics of successful students and introducing the foundational concepts of the workshop (in learner-centered ways, of course).

SESSION 2: DESIGNING LEARNER-CENTERED EXPERIENCES (I)Assessing participants’ learning preferences, understanding the variety of students’ learning preferences, introducing Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and forming teams that will work together on a self-determined learner-centered curriculum design, one they will present on the final day. • SESSION 3: DESIGNING LEARNER-CENTERED EXPERIENCES (II)Learning and experiencing the four components of an effective learner-centered design. • SESSION 4: USING LEARNER-CENTERED STRUCTURES AND STRATEGIESDefining the building blocks of learner-centered practices, introduction to more than 100 structures and strategies, and a second design team meeting to continue the creation of each team’s learner-centered design. • SESSION 5: FACILITATING LEARNER-CENTERED EXPERIENCES (1)Learning the three steps of effective learner-centered facilitation and practicing some of their associated skills. • SESSION 6: DESIGNING LEARNER-CENTERED EXPERIENCES (3)Learning and applying to the design teams a number of theories for creating productive teams of learners; a third design team meeting.

ON COURSE WORKSHOP FOR FRONTLINE STAFF:- • Helping frontline staff contribute to student success and retention • This 1-day workshop is designed to address the unique interaction between frontline staff and students as an opportunity to enhance student responsibility and ultimate success in the college experience. The purpose of the workshop is to recognize the importance of the role of frontline staff as educators, ‘empowerers’ of students and retention specialists. The workshop provides frontline staff with principles and practices for helping students to achieve greater academic success and persistence. This workshop is designed for those who want to contribute to creating a culture of success across the campus, such as… • Frontline staff who work with students in office settings, such as Admissions, Registrar’s, and Business office. • Staff who work in student success centers (e.g., Counseling, Advisement, Health Centers, Libraries and Learning Centers campus). • Student support services professionals who work individually with students. • Administrators who seek to create a culture of success using On Course principles as a framework. • Students who are involved with supplemental instruction, peer tutoring, student government, and other leadership positions.  • FRONTLINE WORKSHOP AGENDA: • SESSION 1: UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF FRONTLINE STAFF IN STUDENT SUCCESSHelping frontline staff embrace the important part they play in student success and retention.

STAY ON COURSE IN A DIVERSE WORLD WORKSHOP:- • Helping college educators implement On Course principles and practices with culturally diverse students • Colleges and universities have more learners than ever before whose diverse perceptions and ways of creating meaning vary, and may differ from those of the educator. The resulting differences create challenges for educators in meeting the needs of all students. In this 1-day workshop, participants have the opportunity to increase their own awareness about concepts related to cultural and learning diversity through discussion and interaction, as well as to identify the conditions and strategies necessary to create relevant and engaging lessons that enable diverse students to learn well together. Participants also learn to use the Pr acticalCourse success principles and learner-centered instructional strategies to strengthen culturally responsive teaching skills. These principles and practices will help honor the cultural perspectives of each learner as s/he moves toward educational success. • NOTE: This workshop helps educators implement previously learned On Course principles and practices in a culturally diverse environment. Drawing from shared new best practices, and the latest research in student success, you’ll have an opportunity to reflect, re-learn and renew your understanding of the Practical Course principles.
