The Question Four playful mathematician were eating lunch together. They noticed a watch left behind at the table next to them. They saw the owner of the watch drive away. One said get the license plate. When the car had disappeared around the corner, they put these characteristics they noticed about the number. The first said “one of the digits is nether prime nor composite.” The second contributed “ the digit in the hundreds place is 3 times the digit in the thousands place.” The third added “ the digit in the ones place is 4 times greater than the digit in the tens place.” The last piped up with the last bit of information “ the smallest prime number is in the thousands place. What number did the 4 playful mathematician see on the license plate.
How we Found our Answer First we had to look up a number that was neither prime nor composite. The number was one. Then we found the smallest prime number. That was two. We put the two in the thousands place. Then we had to do there times two and found the number in the hundreds place. Which was six. The digit in the ones place is four times greater than the digit in ten place. Then we automatically knew that one was in the tens place. We knew that because one cant be four times more than any number besides a decimal. Then we did four times one and it equals four. So four is in the ones place.
Answer The answer is 2,614 2 x 1,000 + 6 x 100 + 1 x 10 + 4 x 1 Two thousand, six hundred fourteen
