What is Differentiated Instruction(DI)? • DI means changing the pace, level, or kind of instruction in response to learners’ styles. • Enhances learning for all students by engaging them in activities that better respond to their: • Particular learning needs • Strengths • Preferences
Class Focus: • Rigorous: Assignments that will motivate students to push themselves. • Relevant: Students will make real-life connections, as lessons align with the IB (International-Baccalaureate) and MYP (Middle Years Program) curriculum. • Flexible and Varied: Students make choices about how they will learn and show mastery. • Complex: Challenge students’ thinking and actively engage them in-depth content and higher level thinking.
My Goal: • Challenge and engage ALLstudents through providing them with opportunities to make choices and work in a variety of instructional formats.
What does DI look like? • Interest Inventory – what type of learner are you? (linguistic, logical, kinesthetic, visual, etc.) • Pre-assessments and Pretests – background for making modifications and challenges as needed • Projects, Presentations, and Performances – Students can present information through their interests and strengths • Project Menus – allowing students to choose assignments that appeal to them and present their learning in a variety of ways
Technology in the Classroom: • Flip Cameras • SmartBoard • Interactive Media (www.brainpop.com) • www.thinkfinity.com and www.thinkport.com • PowerPoint Presentations • Excel Charts/Graphs • Virtual Tours • Edmodo.com (online communication teacher/student and student/student)
