I Institutes and Centres • These Institutes and Centres are: • institutionally part of UNESCO • their overall programmes and priorities form an integral part of the Organization’s Programme and Budget (C/5) • serve a specific purpose within the fields of competence of UNESCO • respond to both global and field-based needs • have a degree of functional autonomy
Purpose and functions • Category I Institutes and Centres : • serve as centres of excellenceand providers of technical support and expertise in their area of specializationto Member States and other Secretariat units, including field offices. • are devoted to capacity-building in their respective fields of competence
