  3. What is Halloween? • It is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31; • It is celebrated in Ireland, the UnitedStates, Canada, Puerto Rico, the UnitedKingdom, sometimes in Australia and New Zealand etc. Is it celebrated in your country too? Where is it celebrated?

  4. What does the word Halloweenmean? • The term Halloween is shortened from All-hallow-even,as it is the evening of/before “All Hallows’ Day”, also known as “All Saints’ Day”.

  5. Traditional activities include: • decorating homes, • carving pumpkins, • trick-or-treating, • Halloween festivals, • bonfires, • costume parties, • visiting “haunted houses”, • viewing horror films, • etc...

  6. What does trick-or-treatingmean? • Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of “souling”, when poor folk would godoor to door, receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day.
