  2. 2013 – 2014 Florida Governor Matthew Cantrell’s “STEPS TO EXCELLENCE” ACTIVITIES April 10th Meeting - INVOCATION We had our Round Table Discussion. Heavenly Father, Help us to be big enough to admit our shortcomings, strong enough to accept criticism, and compassionate enough to understand human frailty, so that we may wholeheartedly help others. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen 10THANNUAL PARENT/SCHOLAR RECOGNITION BREAKFAST On Friday April 11th we had our annual pancake breakfast event where we recognize the outstanding contributions of the parents of Fletcher’s finest students. The Fletcher principal, Don Nelson, gave a short personal bio about each student, and then gave each student a certificate to present to their parents. We were fortunate to again have Reverend Peyton Hopkins as the keynote speaker. He always delivers a humorous and inspiring message. President Karl Price emceed the event, and spoke about our club and Kiwanis. He also presented the scholarships to the two students who were selected by our scholarship committee. The scholarships are deposited into the student’s account at their chosen college. We thank the scholarship selection committee, Karl Price, Chuck Watson, and Paula Powell. Thank you to Chuck and Lucy Watson for their planning, printing programs and certificates, and picking up supplies for the breakfast. We appreciate all who assisted in making this a great event - Karl Price, Chuck and Lucy Watson, Max Robinson, Jane Fairall, John Bates, Paula Powell, LalRamdeen, Alison Cacella, Jim McComb, Bev and Butch Shadwell. Thank you to Lucy Watson who took photos of each student as they were recognized, and sent the photos to each student by email. A special thank you to Publix who donated $100 gift card, and to Starbucks who donated coffee. From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J. Muench PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS BOARD MEETINGS Every 2nd Monday James McComb is now a member of the club! We are doing well this year but we have plenty of room at the table so keep on recruiting. Time is running short for Birdies for Charity so put on your salesman hat on, and get us some more money for our charity work. Our spring social is this Sunday at Adele Grage/Bull Park, 716 Ocean Blvd. Atlantic Beach. It’s out on the lawn, so bring chairs or a blanket and your snacks and beverages. Let’s try to be there by 5:30 PM to get some space for us. The concert runs 6-8 PM. We completed the application for a $500.00 mini-grant from the Florida Kiwanis Foundation to help us in funding a patio area for Finnegan Elementary. Keep your fingers crossed. Well, goodbye for a month as Melva and I take off for the Midwest for an Air Force promotion ceremony for our son-in-law and the high school graduation for our grandson.
