  2. What to do first? • Find your child’s cubby (Look at list on the wall by the cubby room.) • Place all supplies in your child’s cubby • Sign in at kidney table • Share your email (very important) • Take folder to fill out and return with child on first day

All About the Teacher • My Education Undergraduate in Elementary Education – Jacksonville State University Masters in Gifted Education – University of South Alabama, Mobile • My Teaching Experience 9th Year of Teaching Taught fifth grade in Barnesville, Georgia Taught third, fourth, and fifth grades here at Riverton • Personal One “Baby” (Honey)

My Goals • To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to fourth grade. • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To make you wonder about your world. • To stretch your mind and to make you think harder than you ever have • To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

  5. Class Subjects • The subjects we cover during third grade are: • Reading • Writing • Grammar • Math • Science • Social Studies

  6. Math • Got your math facts? • AMSTI math investigations • Math notebooks • Hands-on • Inquiry-based instruction

  7. Science • Inquiry-based instruction • AMSTI Units: Chemical Tests, Plant Studies, Human Body, Earth Materials • Science notebooks

  8. What is AMSTI? • AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) is a state-wide initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide. Its mission is to provide all students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in the workforce. • AMSTI is a research-based way of teaching and involves investigation-based instruction. • I will have an Afternoon with AMSTI Activities for parents in the next few weeks. Please be looking for information in an upcoming weekly newsletter.

  9. Classroom Community • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. • Our class rules are: • Be respectful and responsible. • Be organized and follow directions. • Be on time. • Be prepared. • No excuse policy.

  10. Homework • I will assign 20-30 minutes of homework every night – Monday through Thursday. If your child has additional homework, it is only because he/she did not finish class work, and I am giving them the opportunity to do so. This should not happen often. If it does, please contact me for a conference. • Homework will not be made up if forgotten, left at home, etc. The only exception is if you are out due to extreme circumstances – illness, death, etc. • Homework passes can be purchased through our classroom “store”. However, I encourage students to hold on to these in case they forgot/lost their homework.

  11. Tardiness • School starts at 7:30 A.M. • If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class. • Work missed due to unexcused tardy will not be allowed to be made up. • It is important to be at school on time every day.

  12. Parent/Teacher Communication • Weekly “Monday Notes” – See my webpage on Madison County’s website. • Email several times a week – Monday Notes will be emailed, as well. My email is: kgulledge@madison.k12.al.us. • Homework – check your child’s planner daily • Webpage - updated often • Phone calls home • Study guides/project sheets will be emailed for your convenience. I normally try to do this as soon as I get them typed up.

  13. DisciplineI do not anticipate any discipline problems with my students. However, if any arise, I will follow the actions below: • Warning • Behavioral Slip • Note Home/All of Recess • Office Referral and/or Phone Call Made by Student to the Parent During Class Time
