What is The Physics Major? • Physics is a science that deals with matter and energy and their interactions • Physics has both intellectual and useful aspects • Intellectual aspect derives from our desire to understand the physical characteristics of our universe • Usefulness is evident in the technical age we live in where we have high-tech products and computerized communications • The Wake Forest Physics Department offers an educational program for undergraduates, this program provides a broad understanding of physics with the opportunity to pursue: • Biophysics, nano-technology and materials physics, condensed matter physics, gravitation and particle physics, and optical and laser physics • Physicists originally developed many of the equipment and technology, such as x-rays, lasers, and MRIs, used by other scientists and medical doctors

My Interest • Even though computer science is a science I never realized how much physics influences computer science specifically in computational physics • Interesting how a major in physics is ideal for students planning careers in medicine, law, or business • Productive citizens in this technological age must have a basic understanding of physics
