  1. Jesus is God Incarnate Jordan Maroon

  2. Text in your questions during and after the talk • Text 336-504-5551 with any question you have • After the talk will be more worship, then I’ll get up and do a brief Q and A (don’t worry it’ll be anonymous!)

  3. Text: 336-504-5551 What is God like?John 1:1,14,18 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

  4. Text: 336-504-5551 Incarnation • The bodily manifestation of a supernatural being • Jesus is God incarnate - God made flesh

  5. Text: 336-504-5551 God is holy, holy, holy The Bible says that God is holy, holy, holy. Not that He is merely holy, or even holy, holy. He is holy, holy, holy. The Bible never says that God is love, love, love, or mercy, mercy, mercy, or wrath, wrath, wrath, or justice, justice, justice. It does say that He is holy, holy, holy, the whole earth is full of His glory. (R.C. Sproul, referencing Isaiah 6)

  6. Text: 336-504-5551 God’s Holiness • C.S. Lewis - “How little people know who think that holiness is dull. When one meets the real thing it is irresistible. If even 10% of the world’s population had it, would not the whole world be changed and happy before a year’s end?” • Holiness is a blend of moral purity, spiritual produce, sacred purpose, and transcendent power.

  7. Text: 336-504-5551 Purity of Jesus (Absence of Sin) • He committed no sin and no deceit was found in His mouth. (1 Peter 2:22) • In Him is no sin. (1 John 3:5) • Jesus was “tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)

  8. Text: 336-504-5551 What does this tell us about God? • God never does anything wrong. Whatever decisions God makes are perfect. God cannot ever sin.

  9. Text: 336-504-5551 How do we respond? Root Out Impurity • We casually accommodate sin when we should ruthlessly root it out • Are you comfortable with sin or do you fight tooth and nail to be free of it? • For some reason, the more we understand God’s love and forgiveness, the more we take advantage of it by tolerating sin and saying, “oh well, God will forgive it.”

  10. Text: 336-504-5551 Sin is never ok • A.W. Tozer - We have learned to live with unholiness and have come to look upon it as the natural and expected thing. • God hates sin. Period. He loves us but He does not and will not tolerate sin.

  11. The Smell of Sin by Don Everts

  12. Text: 336-504-5551 Produce of Jesus (Presence of Fruit) • Holiness is more than the absence of sin, it’s the presence of glory. The space where the darkness and death of sin is not found is instead filled with the light and life of God. • The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

  13. Text: 336-504-5551 The Fruit of the Spirit • The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)

  14. Text: 336-504-5551 What does this tell us about God? • There is no one more loving, more full of joy and peace, who has more patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control, and who is more faithful than God. • You will never find a friend or a family member or a spouse who will ever come close to loving you and treating you the way God does.

  15. Text: 336-504-5551 How do we respond? Cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit • Dallas Willard - “Spiritual formation in Christ is the process by which one moves and is moved from self-worship to Christ-centered self-denial as a general condition of life in God’s present and eternal kingdom.” • John Ortberg - “Most Christians are trying rather than training to live the Christian life. Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder but training wisely.” • Just because you want to be like Jesus doesn’t mean you’re actually moving in that direction

  16. Text: 336-504-5551 Intentional Daily Steps • Community - Small Group, church, encouragement and accountability • Prayer - daily, honest confession to God of your failings and requesting that He grow you in joy, peace, self-control, etc • Scripture - don’t just read the Bible, let the Holy Spirit use it to speak into your life and refine you • Surround yourself with wise and godly teaching and people

  17. Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson

  18. Text: 336-504-5551 Purpose of Jesus (Total Dedication) • Holiness: “set apart;”“dedicated to a sacred purpose” • Places, possessions, even people were dedicated to the Lord’s purposes

  19. Text: 336-504-5551 Jesus lived as one “set apart” for God • I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of Him who sent me. (John 6:38) • My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work. (John 4:34) • I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him. (John 8:28-29)

  20. Text: 336-504-5551 What does this tell us about God? • God is so great and so amazing and so worthy of our worship that He deserves all of us - complete dedication.

  21. Text: 336-504-5551 How do we respond? Consecrate ourselves daily • Jesus says, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) • Are you a cheerleader for Jesus or is He your master? (Kevin Hass)

  22. Text: 336-504-5551 How do we respond? Consecrate ourselves daily • We do not segment our lives, giving some time to God, some to our business or schooling, while keeping parts to ourselves. The idea is to live all of our lives in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and for the honor and glory of God. That is what the Christian life is all about. (R.C. Sproul) • As a fully devoted follower of Christ, at some point in your life you must quit asking, 'What's in it for me? and begin asking 'What's in it for the kingdom of God?

  23. The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother LawrenceSpiritual Disciplines Handbook by Adele Calhoun

  24. Text: 336-504-5551 Power of Jesus (Awesome Potency) • Jesus won’t be put in a convenient box for our purposes. He can’t be tricked, humored or manipulated. • Demons fear Him; His followers are in awe of Him. • The power and heat of the sun are nothing compared to God’s might

  25. Text: 336-504-5551 What does this tell us about God? • He is powerful beyond anything we can comprehend. He spoke and the entire universe sprang into being.

  26. Text: 336-504-5551 How do we respond? Remember whom you serve • The fear of the Lord - to be in awe of His power and perfection and incredibly aware of your own weakness and sinfulness. To recognize your place in relation to Him - “all authority in heaven and on earth” belongs to Jesus (Matthew 28:18).
