Motivation • Challenge: • Students from SPAN 1110 are having problems to pronounce properly Spanish words, as well as remembering the endings of the verbs. • Application: • Ames’ study will help us to understand why this problem is occurring. The students were not motivated. On the contrary, Bandura suggests that positive feedback enhances motivation. • The teacher decided that at the end of the semester the students that speak Spanish better will receive an scholarship to visit Spain for a month. With a mastery goal, importance is attached to developing new skills and the attainment of mastery is seen as dependent on effort. • For the students is more important to speak properly Spanish than earning a high grade. That is why, with the mastery goal, they worked hard to learn Spanish and, as a reward, they visited Spain.
