Document Properties • Choose ‘create new flash document’ • Select the bottom tab that says: ‘properties’. • Then click on size, if you want to specify another size. • Then, publish -> settings.
Frame rate • 12 fps is pretty slow and not smooth. • For a smooth animation, you’ll need 15 or above, depending on , what you are working on. • Moviesuse how many fps?? • 18-24fps shall do just fine for 2D animations
Tools Overview • Selection tool add capabilities to edit and manipulate objects and shapes. • Subselection tool offers the same features, but adds control over anchors and control points. • We can try and experiment those abovementioned tools with the line tool, where the latter draws line as in illustrator. • Notice the differences as we go. (selection moves in one direction whereas subselection lets u do more)
Tools Overview (II) • Line tool lets u draw lines, and have some added features (refer to properties) • Window - > properties - > properties • Free transform tool; transforms objects such as scaling / rotating • Gradient transform tool; lets u alter the presetting gradient (moving, widening, proportional scaling and rotating)
Tools Overview (III) • Pen tool; similar as in Photoshop and illustrator programs. Define a shape by drawing and manipulating anchors & control points. (even for tracing) • Text tool; the simplest tool, but inside flash, other options bring more flexibility to designers. • Static text is for normal text to be displayed within the movie. • Dynamic text is used for loading text from an external file (.txt, .xml) • Input text, where the user types in. (used on flash websites)
Tools Overview (IV) • Oval and rectangle tools for basic shapes drawing. • Polystartool draws shape with n sides (n. of sides) - > check properties - > options • Pencil tool and that of brush tools allow you to create freehand lines • Paint bucket tool lets you paint any closed-paths, either with basic shapes or drawn. (tricky - > when lines intersect and create a closed section, you can paint it)
Timeline • You can create layers independently and work on them accordingly. • When you have several layers, management becomes hard, thus organize your layers into appropriate folders. • Meaning of eye, padlock and outlines icons. • Moreover, you can edit scenes or symbols, based on what you are, supposed to work on. (icons are laid on the top-right corner)
Library • Stores all graphics or shapes you have converted. Why the need? • For the ability to re-use files (instancing)and thus restricting a large file size as result.
