Using WS_FTP to DownloadYour Website Source FilesStanford University Continuing Studies CS03 Mark Branom markb@stanford.edu http://www.stanford.edu/people/markb/ Course Web Site: http://www.stanford.edu/group/csp/cs03/
Session Properties • Step 1 -- Open WS_FTP • Step 2 -- Enter the information as requested:Profile Name: tripodHost Name/Address: ftp.tripod.comHost Type: Automatic detectUser ID: Your Lycos / Tripod accountPassword: Your passwordAccount: Leave Blank
New connection If all of the data has been correctly entered, you will now be in your webspace in tripod.
Save - 1st step We’re almost ready to get the file you wish to download. But instead of saving it in the WS_FTP directory, let’s save it onto a floppy disk. Press the ChgDir button on the “Local System” section as shown to the right. Then, in the dialog box, type in the location of your file (mine is on my floppy disk, drive a:\ )
Save -- Step 2 • Locate the file you wish to download on the “Remote Site” part of the screen. SINGLE-click on it. • If it’s an html file, make sure that ASCII is checked, NOT Binary. • SINGLE-click on the arrow pointing toward the “Local System” part of the screen.
That’s it!!! You may now open the file using “Notepad” and begin editing your HTML file. HINT: Selecting a file, then pressing “View” will open the file in Notepad automatically!
