In this workshop, we will explore Vivian Gussin Paley’s Storytelling/Story Acting approach that is both simple and powerful. By recognizing and encouraging children’s narrative and then providing a way for their ideas to be “visible,” children gain literacy and language skills as well as developing a sense of belonging and community. CPR and First Aid Tuesday, March 11, 2014 7:00 - 10:00 pm Cost: $45 Frank Hines, Instructor Participants will learn child and infant CPR techniques, relief of obstructed airway in the responsive victim, use of barrier devices, and pediatric medical emergencies. Participants will be trained in the immediate care needed for an injured or seriously ill child. This basic program will concentrate on the first five minutes of care, what to do, and how to do it. A Special Event from Save the Children: Emergency Preparedness Wednesday, March 19, 2014 5:00 - 9:00 pm Cost: FREE Child Care Emergency Preparedness is designed to help child care providers develop and implement robust emergency plans that cater to the specific needs of their program. The course teaches participants best practices in evacuation, relocation and family re-unification. The curriculum also provides guidance for practical applications to improve overall emergency protocol. Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to identify hazards and risks at their child care site, create a written plan that addresses the emergency needs of their program, and communicate, practice, and update their emergency plan on a regular basis.
