The Public Private Dialogue in Southern Sudan Government of Southern Sudan Ministry of Commerce, Trade& Supply Directorate of Private Sector Development 2nd April, 2008, Dakar-Senegal
Introduction • Southern Sudan after years of conflict, under development and dictatorship needs dialogue in general and PPD in particular for; • Sustaining peace. • Building investors confidence in investment climate and • Fostering democracy.
Current PPD Status • Funding accessed from MDTF/GOSS to facilitate PPD among other activities for PSD. • The IFC/ICTA thankfully assessed the status of PPD, shared the findings with the stakeholders and some recommendations were adopted.
Challenges • Weak public/private sector institutions. • Limited funding. • Limited networking with regional and international PPD forums.
Proposed Strategies • Utilization of the current MDTF/GOSS funding for building PPDF structure. • Seeking support of IFC/ICTA to strengthen the capacities of public/private sector institutions related to PPD. • Continue lobbing for funding internally and from other good wishers. • Linking SSBF with other similar regional and global forums. • Seeking support from IFC/ICTA and other donors to organize and form business sectoral associations and enhance their capacity.
