Upgrade for HL-LHC Water Supply: Crespo Function

Upgrade the water supply system at Crespo Function for HL-LHC project to meet new safety requirements. Enhancements include increased flow rates for fire hydrants and cooling towers. Works involve mechanical modifications, cables pulling, and system constraints during operations. Fire brigade can use communal network or cooling tower water. Upgrades to be done during cold period to minimize water consumption.

  2. Function& current design HL-LHC Water supply for fire hydrants & coolingtowers Currentcapacity: 50 m3/h @ 113M LHC halfloop 1-5 UJ56

  3. Reason for change • Following the new safetyrequest for HL-LHC • ``The water hydrant network shall be sized to allow the simultaneous use of any two hydrants and the network shall be looped or connected to different water sources as specified in the Safety Request Form (EDMS 1854596).´´ • ``The HL-LHC project team decided not to implement the looping of the fire hydrant network.´´ • New needs • Each hydrant has to provide a flow of 60m3/h @ min 4bars The new plant willprovide 120m3/h @ 135m All the otherscharacteristicswillremainunchanged

  4. Works & Constraints • Works to bedone • SF5: control & power cabinets replacement • SL5: cablespulling • SD5: mechanical modifications • PM56: cablespulling • UJ56: mechanical modifications • Constraints • Several stops of the system • Coolingtowersfilledwithdrinking water • Fire brigade can use Hydrant from communal network or pump the water from the coolingtowers bassins • Firedosavailable • Need to bedoneduring a cold period (less water consumptions) • 2monthswithonly one pumpavailable • 2ndpumpwillbeavailable on site & canbereplacedquickly UJ56 current plant SD5 work location UJ56 work location
