  6. How was the North & Outer West Strategy developed? • Identified issues raised over the past two years • Kingston Park events • Over 80 community & voluntary groups • Confirmed/rejected issues from the past • Identified new issues • Identified priorities at a local level

  7. KEY ISSUES IDENTIFIED • Issues vary by area • Transport – Lemington • Empty Council properties – Cowgate & East Denton • Lots of common themes • Schools and the world of work • Crime & Community Safety • Decent homes

  8. How is it delivered? Newcastle Partnership North West Partnership North & Outer West LNR Group

North and Outer West LNR Group • 3 Elected Members (one from the Outer West Council Members, two from the North West Partnership Board) • 3 Community Representatives (Together We Can Manage, Cowgate Community Forum and Newbiggin Hall Community Forum) • 3 Voluntary/Private Sector representatives (from Denton Community Partnership, Northumbria Police, Nestle UK/Print Design and Graphics Ltd)

  10. What has happened so far?Seminar in August 2004: • Developed a vision for the Outer and North West from local consultation to date • Looked at Government Floor Targets and Local Priorities • Identified some strategic proposals for Neighbourhood Renewal Funding

  11. Some of the ideas emerging from the Seminar include…. • A ‘target hardening’ project addressing training, crime and community safety and housing issues • Better recycling and environmental education required • More help for primary school children needed • Construction skills shortages are evident • Support for small businesses needed • Transport survey regarding gaps

  12. What happens next? • We are writing up the outcomes of the Seminar to • Feed back to those involved in the LNRS process to date • Develop a programme of activity for the Preparing for Change Board (September) • Produce proformas for projects (October)
