  2. Module Overview • The module introduces students to the regional organizations engaged in global counter-terrorism efforts. • Includes discussion of five geographical regions: African, Inter-American, Asian, European and Middle Eastern/Gulf.

  3. Learning Outcomes • Understand the role of regional organizations and instruments, and differences in their approaches to countering terrorism. • Examine the strengths and weaknesses of regional human rights systems. • Encourage students to develop basic comparative research and analysis skills.

Module 5 Outline • African region • African Union (AU) • Inter-American region • Organization of American States (OAS) • Asian region • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation(SAARC), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) • European region • Council of Europe (CoE), European Union (EU), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) • Middle Eastern and Gulf regions • League of Arab States (LAS), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
