Who were the Ottoman Empire? • The Ottoman Empire consisted of 29 provinces and divided into independent states called Ghazi emirates. • The Sultanate played a significant role in the decline of the Ottoman Empire. • Starting from Suleyman the sultanate became more lazy and incompetent till Selim II where the Ottomans were beginning to lose control of their empire.
What happened to the Ottoman Empire? • The Ottoman Empire significantly declined.
When did the Ottoman Empire Collapse? • Near the beginning of the fourteenth Century, Osman I established the Ottoman Empire. • The ottoman Empire was at the height of its power in the 16th and 17th centuries. • The Ottoman Empire lost possession of fighting force and sided with Germany in World War I and was defeated 1918.
Where were the Ottoman Empire? • The Ottoman empire begun in Anatolia in the west of Turkey. • The Ottomans have managed to extend their influence and gain territory of a majority of Anatolia and even into Byzantine territory in eastern Europe. • Byzantium was the capital and was renamed to Istanbul. • The Ottoman empire territory extended from Europe all the way to the Arabian Peninsula and even North Africa. Why did the Ottoman Empire Collapse? There were a number of reasons to why the Ottoman Empire collapsed: • Loss of economic vitality; Economic stagnation • Poor industrialization. • Decline of the Sultanate; Poor Leadership • Bribery • Military • World War I
How did the Ottoman Empire Collapse? (1) • Loss of economic vitality; Economic stagnation: They lost the sea trade routes, where the Europeans passed by the Middle East and diminished the transit through the Ottoman region. Furthermore as the Europeans continued to industrialize and flourish the Ottomans did not have an increase in their economics.
How did the Ottoman Empire Collapse? (2) • One of the main reason of the collapse of the empire is the decline in the Sultanate. It originally was a strong institution. However, over time it weakened. It begun to weaken in the late reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. He became less actively involved in the concerns of the region. Then finally Selim II became the next Sultan and had no experience of running the government. He took interest in his own personal pleasure and took no responsibility towards the state.
How did the Ottoman Empire Collapse? (3) • World War I was the final cause of the complete collapse of the empire. The once unmatched fighting force was no longer on top. They became involved in World War I and sided with Germany. By the end of the ware the empire was torn apart until all that was left was modern day Turkey.
