  3. Coco Chanel • Born August 18, 1883 died January 10, 1971 • Founded the Chanel brand and will always be remembered for her elegant style

  4. Louis Vuitton • Born August 4, 1821, died February 27, 1892 • Founded the Louis Vuitton Brand

  5. Yves Saint Laurent • He was one of the greatest fashion names in French history • He is credited by being the first designer to use ethnic models in his runway shows and reference non-European looks in his work

  6. Christian Dior • His family had hoped he would become a diplomat, but he was much more interested in art and fashion • He sold some of his fashion sketches outside his house for about 10 cents each.

  7. René Lacoste • He’s known worldwide for creating a famous tennis shirt that can be recognized by its signature crocodile symbol

  8. Pierre Cardin • He invented the bubble dress in 1954

  9. Thierry Hermès • Founded the Hermès fashion company that specializes in leather, accessories, perfume, and luxury goods • The Hermes fashion company is most known for its famous scarves

  10. Christian Lacroix • Critics didn’t believe in the type of clothing he was creating so in retaliation he opened up his own boutiques in Paris • He is most known for inventing the iconic puffball skirt

  16. Fashion Week in France The French Fashion week is held in the Carrousel de Louvre. The expression Haute Couture is, in France, a legally protected name, guaranteeing certain quality standards. French Fashion is usually sophisticated and often understated. It’s an interesting mix of masculine and feminine, and sometimes unconventional but still elegant and has a seemingly effortless look.
