  1. ONLINE LEARNING LAB PROTOCOLS / PROCEDURES

  2. THE CLASS • The APEX course you are enrolled in has TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS that comprise your total grade: • The first component is comprised of APEX Quizzes (CSTs) and other APEX Online Unit Tests • The second component is comprised of Journal entries, answers to online discussions, practice TSTs, and section notes. • Together, these components add up as your total grade in the class.

  3. The Journal • You Are Required To Bring A Journal To The Apex Online Learning Lab Everyday. Your Grade In This Class Depends Heavily On This Journal. • I Will NOT Grade Separate Sheets Of Paper!! **Unless It’s directly printed from APEX and attached to the journal.** • That Said, All Written Work Must Be On The Journal.

  4. The Journal • You may NOT use a Journal from another class. Your APEX journal must be used only during the Online Learning Lab. • Unless you plan on working at home, leave your Journal in the cabinets that are labeled by period (i.e., period 1, period 2, etc.) • Be organized when storing journals and remember where you place it! I will not be responsible for lost or misplaced journals. Journals are entirely your responsibility!! • Most importantly, I will collect and grade Journals EVERY FRIDAY. It is your responsibility to have journals ready by the end of the week. Failure to leave your journal will delay the grading process and your overall progress.

  5. Expectations for journals • THE EXPECTATION IS THAT YOU KEEP YOUR JOURNAL ORGANIZED AND LEGIBLE. • Write a heading for ALL Units and Sections • (i.e., “Unit 4, Section 2.3.4”) • PUT A DATE ON EVERY ASSIGNMENT!!! • (I will take off points if you’re missing headings/dates) • Highlight or square your answers *unless it’s a written response to an essay or paragraph* • Answer questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES! • For “Fill-in-the-blank” Questions, be sure to copy the ENTIRE sentence. • Do ALL of the Study Sheets and Written Components that you come across. If you’re not sure whether you are required to do an assignment, ASK, Do Not Assume It Is Not Important—this could hurt your grade!

  6. Moving along with sections/units and quizzes • APEX recognizes how much time a student spends on each section. If you speed through the course and only take Quizzes, APEX may not allow you to move along. • APEX must detect that students have spent enough time on their assignments in order to move them to the next section or unit. • APEX will allow you to take Quizzes up to 3 times. If you fail 3 times, I will reset your quiz once after seeing your notes. I will NOT reset your quiz multiple times without written proof of your commitment to the section or unit. • WARNING: I WILL GO BACK AND ERASE EVERY QUIZ/TEST THAT YOU COMPLETE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE; THAT IS, WITHOUT HAVING COMPLETED THE JOURNAL. • DO NOT SKIP AHEAD WITHOUT COMPLETING YOUR WRITTEN WORK AS WELL.

  7. YOUR ROLE: DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!! • IT IS 100% YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOT FALL BEHIND ON APEX! • IT IS 100% MY JOB TO MONITOR YOUR PROGRESS AND HELP YOU SUCCED. AS SUCH, WE WILL COLLABORATE IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: • I generate assignment deadlines. This will make it easier for you to determine when sections and units are due. This will also ensure that you do not fall behind. Remember, the ultimate goal is to NOT FALL BEHIND! • You meet ALL deadlines. Talk to me when you’re falling behind so we can figure out a better schedule. I can also print a list of your assignments if it helps! • I monitor your progress and meet with you at least once a week. Use this time to ask me questions about your progress, tell me your goals and expectations for APEX that week, or any other concerns you may have. • **NOTE: Tutoring Hours/Office Hours TBA.

  8. CONSEQUENCES FOR MISSING ASSIGNMENTS: • STAY ON TOP OF YOUR WORK, OR I’LL PULL AN INTERVENTION! • 2 weeks of not turning in Journal= Parent Phone Call + Support Room/Detention **If you continue to miss assignments, I schedule a parent conference to discuss your progress in the class. • APEX Indicators of Progress: • RED: Falling VERY Behind w/ Assignments • YELLOW: Falling Behind w/ Assignments • GREEN: On target! • GOAL: You ALL want a GREEN progress bar. • PROTOCOL: I will call parents home as necessary during conference period the moment your bar turns RED. • Consequences for staying on RED: • 1. Parent Phone Call + Support Room/Detention • 2. Parent Conference w/ Teacher • 3. Parent Conference w/ Administration and Counselor
