The Library is a Classroom Students forget because it does not look like a classroom. Remind them of what your expectations are while they are in your classroom. Arrange chairs so no ones back is toward you if possible.
The Library is a Classroom No talking when it is your turn to talk. Have established procedures for each activity such as check-out, book return, computer use. Have a reference question on the table when the students arrive, they work on answering the question in their journals while you attend to business.
Disruptive Behavior Have an established set of consequences. Have the student write a note home and return it signed before further check-outs. Have the student call their parent(s).
TIPS Share that a library book is kept in their book bag/backpack when it is not being read. Have magazines on the tables for students to read/look at after check out or if they can not check new books out. Save old issues to use on tables.
