Options After IGCSE • Important decisions to be made. • Must consider all your options carefully. • Must select the option that is right for your daughter. • Chisi has options to suit every level of academic ability- from upto 4 A levels to full vocational course AND mixtures of the two. There are other options available- not just Chisi.

Sixth Form at Chisi • Broad range of subject options. • Academic programme to suit all abilities. • Vocational programme that is up-to-date and relevant. • Music. • Sport. • Cultural activities. • Leadership and management opportunities and training.
Sixth Form is different. • Teachers will treat your daughter differently. • They will expect self-discipline. • They will expect maturity. • BUT, the school rules remain the same...

Exams and beyond • IGCSE schedule is gruelling • BUT AFTER the girls have over 2 full months off • Use this time wisely • More and more colleges are looking for work experience- especially for popular courses • Also useful for the girls to understand what they DON’T want to be Over the next two years, your daughter must build her C.V. for tertiary education and employment applications.
IGCSE ‘Break’ Work Experience • A survey of the UK's leading 100 employers , 32% of this year's graduate vacancies will be taken by applicants who have done work experience at the firm. • High Fliers Research/ The Guardian (quoted in The Week 22nd January 2011) • This is hugely significant in her final reference and is often a focus in interviews and personal statements- ESPECIALLY if her intended career is highly competitive. • However, ANY experience that adds to your daughter’s confidence, knowledge and abilities is essential education about THE REAL WORLD.
Induction Course and Camp • Career Research and Decisions, Holland Assessment, Temperament Analysis, Career Action Plans, Curriculum Vitae • Rules for Academic Writing and Referencing, Presentation Skills • Personal goals and achievement • Understanding Emotional Quotient and Self-Awareness • Team work in stress-full situations, diversity in team roles. • First Aid, Fire Extinguisher use, Responsible Driving
As well as ‘taster’ sessions for some courses • Vocational Subject Expo • Servant-Leadership at Chisipite In September we will ask you if you plan for your daughter to return into Sixth Form. A $600 ‘Sixth Form’ fee is then required by the end of October. This covers the Induction course and camp, the future Leadership course and the other careers and development costs essential to their preparation for leaving school. There is no differential termly fee charged for Sixth Form.
IGCSE Results released (estimated Fri 23 Jan) And on the following Monday 7.25am registration • 8am Subject selection. This is a difficult process… but it is critical to your daughter’s career.
Who is chosen for which course? • IGCSE grade. Most Advanced Level subjects require an A. In some circumstances a B is acceptable. Vocational subjects tend to require an aptitude and INTEREST. • Overall performance. Pupils achieving less than 6 IGCSE passes will not be admitted onto any Advanced level courses. Only A and B grades are considered suitable admission for A levels and the number of A levels taken will not exceed the number of A’s and B’s achieved. • Teacher recommendation.
Examinations Offered • Cambridge AS & A Levels in 20 different subjects. City & Guilds Pitman’s Qualification. - includes Food Preparation, Patisserie. • International Computer Driving Licence. • Vocational IGCSE including; Travel & Tourism, Enterprise, Sociology & Environmental Management.
Band A Band B Band C Band D Band E Cambridge AS and A levels Mixed Courses comprising Pitmans City & Guilds Courses, Cambridge Diploma, IGCSE and AS Courses
Supplementary Subjects • Thinking Skills AS & A. • Global Perspectives AS. • English Language AS. • English Lang. and Lit. AS. • Physical Education AS. Flexible and Broad Education Girls can take upto 5 AS levels in L6, followed by 4 A levels in U6 (plus a further AS level if required!) OR mix 2 A levels with 2 vocational subjects OR a full Vocational course of 4 different qualifications
Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma • Must gain at least 6 credits (AS level count as 1 credit, A level as 2 credits) over a maximum of 13 months with at least one credit in each of the following groups; Group 1 Mathematics and Science Group 2 Languages Group 3 Art and Humanities
In addition to this.. • Sport. • Music. • Clubs such as Toastmasters’, Eloquence, Orators’, Model United Nations, Art, Debate, Chess, Bridge... • Community service clubs such as Interact Society, First Aid, Conservation Club... • Leadership & management programme.
Thinking Skills • Offered as a 2 year A level or 1 year AS Level. • Critical thinking is an essential university skill. • Essential for the NBT (SA) English examination and for those interested in the US. • A level offered to strong academics. AS classes will be offered in Upper Sixth.
Global Perspectives • A new Cambridge course aimed at critical assessment of issues that affect all of us. • Broadens the girls’ understanding of differing perspectives around the world. • TOTALLY different assessment method; discursive essay on a topic of their choice and a presentation on material supplied by CIE.
Tertiary Institutions • Entry requirements differ dramatically. • You must research these. • Law- no prerequisites. • UCT- B(Comm) requires Maths. • US universities like broad options. • Foundation courses.
Careers Consultancy Companies • BEWARE
Careers Guidance in Sixth Form • Parents talk on application process in Term 2 of Lower Sixth. • Lectures for girls. • University visits. • Leadership roles. • Guidance on the application process including application timings, requirements, C.V.’s, and personal statements.
