CPCS is a scheme that was initiated with the purpose of providing safety rules and regulation to the construction companies. This will reduce the penalties that authorities will have to pay for not meeting the safety regulations and criteria set up by the UKNK. • CPCS issues two types of CPCS cards to the constructors who wish to work in the UK in the construction industries. Blue or the competent operator card is valid for the time period of five years and it can be renewed before its expiration. This card confirms the worker having the demonstration of all necessary plant operating skills and knowledge gained via various technical and theory tests. It provides proof of the skills and the abilities of the plant operators in a number of different roles. • The blue card ensures that the worker or a person has achieved a level of health, safety, and environmental awareness by CITB Health, Safety, and environment test. Before getting a blue card one must be issued with a Red card.
How to get a Blue CPCS competent Operator Card? In order to get a CPCS card you must follow the following guideline: • The first and foremost requirement is the presence of Red CPCS card. • You should be able to provide the proof of achievement of the SVQ or NVQ for the category being applied for the CPCS Test centre. • Qualify the relevant CITB Health, safety and environment test within the two months • Should get the CPCS practical test done within the six months of CPCS theory test and within two months of the CITB Health, safety and environment test. Both the practical and theory tests should be delivered by an accredited CPCS test centre. After achieving the CPCS practical test, The CPCS test centre will request the Competent Operator card on your behalf. While receiving the first competent card, you will be provided a CPCS logbook. The purpose of the Logbook is to keep the record of lifelong learning and evidence of the renewal of the competent card.
Training for the Blue card is dependent on the type of course and role. Following are the available courses: • Crane Operator • Telescopic Handler • BanksmanSlinger/Signaller • Forward Tipping Dumpers The blue card is valid for tenure of 5 years and can be renewed easily with the simple renewal test. The Red card is applicable for a time period of 2 years only. In the meantime, you are supposed to undertake the relevant NVQ in order to upgrade to the Blue Card. To complete the NVQ, you will have to submit the work evidence and have to complete the assessment by observation with the assessor. Blue CPCS card ensure and certifies you as a skilled professional, which abide by all the safety rules and measures of a construction company.
