Definition: The Emerging Leader Program is a development program to help prepare select “high potential” members for future roles within HCA as Directors, AVPs or other Senior Leadership positions.
“A leadership pipeline is only a pipeline if it creates leaders. We are very proud of our HR Agenda in IT&S. The Emerging Leader program is one of the jewels within the crown. Several of our graduates have become Divisional CIO’s and Corporate Assistant Vice Presidents. For our aspiring Directors, there is no better way to position themselves for greater leadership opportunities than through the Emerging Leaders program.” Why Do This?
Program Statistics To Date 2013 – 2014 Program – 18 months 18 participants Results:9have received significant job expansion to date 2011 – 2012 Program – 24 months 16 participants Results: 15 earned promotions or significant job expansion
Candidate Application Process • Open Application process • Meet Candidate Criteria • Application Form, Resume, Recommendations • Selection • Review of all applications • Set of Assessments • Panel “Live” interviews • Selection by IT&S Executive Leadership • Target no more than 18 per class
Criteria for Selection Qualified applicants will demonstrate the following: • Management experience, with at least 1 year of HCA experience. • Have completed, or in progress of completing, graduate degree. • 2013 performance evaluation Meets or Exceeds Expectations • Geographic flexibility is a plus • For Corporate IT&S employees, has participated in IT Healthcare Connection, or is on the list.
Program Experience Overview • Formal development through seminars and on-line training • Formal Development Plans • Formal mentoring sessions with assigned Mentor • Team and individual projects • Job shadowing • Service to HCA and broader community • Application of learning to current role • Mentor/Mentee/Manager check-in calls • Progress assessments – Pre and Post Leadership Mirror 360s; Self, Mentor and Peer evaluations • Networking and team events; examples: Speed Networking Reception with area leaders; Visits to HCA operations areas
