  12. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Provide sustained professional development training for faculty • Year-round professional development program focused on effective instructional strategies • Research-based principles of instruction • Integration of course and program-learning outcomes • Training to support faculty in identifying the unique academic needs of the students to address equity gaps

BASIC SKILLS IMPROVEMENT • Increase the proportion of students who progress through the developmental math and English sequences {ATD} • Use of noncredit • Compression and acceleration models • Assistance in grade norming processes • Encouraging students master course material (better than a “C”) to improve success in subsequent courses • Developing methods to encourage students to progress through the sequences through successive semesters • Utilize support services such as specialized tutoring, automated diagnostics, and remediated services • Create programs to prevent “cold assessment” and prepare students to take placement exams {ATD}

  15. Targeting Underrepresented Students • Create strategies to recruit and support underrepresented groups and to eliminate the achievement gap • Identify and target high-impact courses with disparate success rates • Improve the transfer rate for underrepresented groups • Tailor the presentation of the university transfer process to specifically address cultural concerns of students and their families

  16. Evaluation and Accountability • Create a college consensus defining “completion” • Expand campus dialog on student outcomes • Develop a method to evaluate the effectiveness and classroom application of student-centered instruction strategies offered through Professional Development • Use of learning assessment to further student success

  17. Planning for the Future • The Educational Master Plan was developed to be broad in context • The Plan allows each department to develop their own actions that will help the college achieve its objectives and goals
