History - LBL Engineering note #10450 Different Versions: Proto Original Current - Rev. A (6mm.) - Rev. 1 (22mm.) - Rev. E (0.125”)
ES PSS Assembly Design Primary design details: Critical dimensions remain same Design is retro-fitable New switches New switch actuation design New switch access design Meets OP 02-30 procedurecriteria
New Switch Specification Switch Details: “924CE1-S3” Safety Rated High Cycle life Reputable Manufacturer Available
General Design Changes • Changes to address Tracking issues: • 1) Documentation via an engineering notes • #10450 - MDC Specific • #10457 - General PSS Assys at ALS • 2) New part number assigned, Old versions obsolete • 3) Shutters need tag for exterior indication • - Name (LBL ALS ES PSS Assy) • - Part number (200863-2002) • - Serial number (unique for ever unit) • 4) Print details • - Fabrication/ Assembly Procedure • - Bill of material / wire diagram • - Reference LBL Engineering note #10450
Specific Mechanical Improvements • Changes to address fabrication and reliability issues: • Bellows leaks -> Usage 30K cycles vs. 100K cycles design • - MDC design changes to increase number of cycles • Limit Switch failures -> New switches and actuation design • Access to switches -> New door style access • Paddle thickness -> Specified as 0.125” minimum • - Changes design requires new assembly • Assembly inconsistencies -> MDC Procedure requirement added • Operational issues -> MDC Testing required. • - Electrical circuit verification. • - Cycle test – at least 100 cycles. • - Paddle thickness measured. • - Documentation to be provided.
Old Switch Design Old design / issues: Switch not safety rated Low cycle life Improper actuation No adjustability Wire damage
ES PSS Assembly Checklist To be completed after fabrication and delivered with each PSS assembly.
ES PSS Assembly Safety Requirements: Established OP 02-30 Changes have not effected these requirements or have incorporated them.
