Muscular System • Muscular system- provides structure and supports and moves trunk and limbs; moves substances through the body.
Muscular System • The muscular system makes up almost half of the weight of your body. (this is why when you work out u gain muscle weight.) • Bones are the organs in the muscular system.
Muscular System • Three types of muscle tissue -Cardiac: forms the bulk of the heart -Smooth: located in the walls of hollow internal structures.(blood vessels, stomach, bladder ect.) -Skeletal: attached to the bones. All skeletal muscle fibers are not alike in structure or function.
Muscular System • Muscle fatigue- transient muscle that decrease in performance capacity of muscles, usually evidenced by a failure to maintain or develop a certain expected force or power. • Physical activity builds muscle tissue.
Muscular System • Flexors- Flexors bend at the joint, deceasing at the interior angle. • Extensors- unbend at the joint, increasing the interior angle. • muscles are connected to tendons, when are connected to the bones. • When muscles contract, they pull on the tendons, which pull on the muscles, and cause movement. • Flexor extensor pairs • Bicep, triceps • Quadriceps, hamstrings • Rectus abdominis, latissimus dorsi
Muscular disorders • Atony- muscles lose their elasticity. • will experience atonic seizures • During atonic seizures the brain temporarily alters and causes the lapse of muscle tone
Muscular System • Connective tissues- • Fibroblasts: producing the other 3 connective tissue components. • Collagen: long thin fibers intertwine to form very strong fibers • Elastic: highly elastic fibers partially abundant in the walls of the arteries • Proteoglycans: Fibroblasts, collagen, and elastic fibers reside.
Muscular System • Tendon- a band of connective tissue that connects muscle to bone • Tendons and muscles work together to control joint movment.
Muscular System • Diaphragm- a sheet of muscle below the rib cage. • Breath primarily with the diaphragm.
