  2. Finding fractions of wholes • Finding parts of one whole • The whole could be anything divided into sections/parts The whole could also be any shape but must be divided into equal pieces

  3. Finding parts of a set • Finding fraction of a quantity/set/group of things 2 3 2 6 3 12 Here there are many pieces but all pieces are all the same size

  4. What is a fraction made up of? • The bottom number (Denominator) always tells you how many pieces the whole or set is made up of • The pieces must be equal • The top number (Numerator) tells us how many of those pieces we are dealing with
