Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council • Advises the Government on national research, innovation and enterprise strategies • Chaired by the Prime Minister, and comprises of other Ministers, prominent captains of industry, and internationally renowned individuals from the scientific and academic communities

4. National Research Foundation • Set up in Jan 2006 • Initial funding of S$5 billion for 2006-2010 • Implements strategies approved by RIEC • Allocates funding to programmes that meet the NRF strategic objectives

7. Ministry of Health-National Medical Research Council • Established in 1994 • Provides research funds to healthcare institutions, national disease centres and tertiary public educational institutions • Leads the efforts for the funding of Phase two of the Biomedical Sciences Initiative

Singapore’s Biomedical Sciences Initiative • Launched in 2000 to develop the biomedical sciences cluster as one of the key pillars of Singapore’s economy • Three key agencies involved in developing this cluster: Biomedical Research Council (A*STAR), Economic Development Board’s Biomedical Science Group and EDB’s Bio*One
