Graduation Requirements Areas of Study: Unit Requirements • English/Language Arts* 4 • Math* 4 • Science* 4 • Social Studies* 3 • CTAE and/or Fine Arts and/or Foreign Lang. 3 • Health and Physical Education* 1 • Electives 4 Total Units (Minimum) 23 • Required Courses and/or Core Courses • Entering their junior year, students should have 14 units. • If your child has less than 10 credits, he or she may have to make up units outside of the regular school day in order to graduate on time. (i.e. summer school) • Please call and make an appointment to speak with your child’s counselor about his/her options.

  5. The Year of Testing! • GA Milestones End of Course tests: 9th grade Eng., American Lit., Biology, US. History, CC Algebra, CC Geometry, Economics (This will count 20% of final grade.) • www.sat.org and www.act.org • ASVAB- October 16, 2019 @ WHS(all 11th graders will take the ASVAB unless they are taking the PSAT) • PSAT – October 16th National Merit Scholarship (11th grade score)

  8. There is still HOPE! HOPE High School GPA: • GSFC will calculate GPAs for all students from transcript data supplied by high schools. (Check student’s HOPE GPA on www.gafutures.org ) • Weighting will be applied for AP courses and DE courses • Counts all core courses including failed courses • All GPAs on a 4.0 grading scale • Students eligibility GPA will be 3.0 for a percentage of tuition (adjusted yearly) • Rigor course requirement(4 courses) • Zell Miller Scholars- receives 100% of tuition Students eligibility: 1. GPA will be 3.7 academic core 2. 1,200 combined critical reading score and math score on a single administration of the SAT oran ACT score of at least 26 Composite.

The American LegionGeorgia Boys’/Girls’ State • What: One week “learn by doing” government seminar • Who: Boys’/Girls’ after junior year; 3.0 GPA preferred • When: Usually 2nd week of June • Where: Girls-Georgia Southern College, Statesboro, GA Boys-Riverside Military Academy • Why: Great experience, resume builder, fun!!; ask last summer’s alumni for more reasons. • How: Contact Mrs. Lisa Loveearly spring semester • POC: John Christ, American Legion Post 105 770.842.4566 More: www.gaboysstate.com www.georgiagirlsstate.org PS: It’s FREE! Important Dates: • Advanced Placement Parent/Student Meeting January 9, 2020 at WHS • ASVAB- October 16, 2019 @ WHS (all 11th graders will take test) • Financial Aid Night – September 24, 2019 at McIntosh High School 7pm • Financial Aid Night - October 8, 2019 at Fayette County High School 7pm • PROBE Fair – November 6, 2019 SCHS 6:30 – 8:30pm • Atlanta National College Fair on March 15, 2020 at the Georgia International Convention Center (register for the even online www.nacacfairs.org)

  13. College Visit Policy for Juniors. 1. Contact college admission office and schedule an appointment for a tour. 2. Obtain a college visit form from the attendance office at least a week in advance. 3. Have all of your classroom teachers sign the form. 4. Have college admissions sign the form. 5. Return the completed form to attendance on the day of your return. 2 visits for Junior Year

Bridge Bill In 2010, Georgia’s General Assembly passed the BRIDGE law to promote career awareness and the development of individualized plans of studies for all Georgia middle and high school students. Each year students must complete a grade specific activity and update their plan of study. Activities will be on connection.naviance.com/whitewaterhs.
