This roadmap of your Junior Year is one that we hope you will use wisely to plan for the coming months! The JOURNEY to post-secondary options begins NOW! Be sure that you are challenging yourself with a rigorous curriculum this year and when you are selecting your courses for Senior Year. Attend Your Junior Status Conference with your counselor. Each Junior family should have received a letter in the mail with a designated appointment time for you. **If you do not know the appointment time for your Junior Status Conference please see Mrs. Stromie in the counseling office.** Identify Sources of college and career information. Here are a few starters: www.gacollege411.org www.inlikeme.com www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org Explore the websites of these colleges for admissions info, deadlines, & virtual tours. Begin to build a preliminary list of potential colleges. Plan to apply to 5-8 Colleges. 1-2 Dream/Reach: _______________________ _______________________ 2-3 Moderate Level: _______________________ _______________________ _______________________ 2-3 Safety/Fallback: ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ Talk to friends, parents, & faculty members about various colleges and careers that you think you might be interested in. Sign up to meet a college representative during their visit to WFHS. Announcements will be made for you to pick up a pass from the counseling office. Start Preparing for the SAT &/or ACT by practicing online or utilizing prep courses. WFHS will advertise a few on our Counseling website. The score report provides access codes for My College QuickStartwhich has tailored study questions, college searches & a personality test to find majors & careers that fit you!

Begin to create a • college/scholarship resume. • Keep a list of extracurricular • activities that you have participated in (i.e. sports, clubs, special classes, camps, religious activities, and community/volunteer services. . Check for your HOPE GPA & Eligibility by visiting www.gacollege411.org Most students should be able to use their school login information. Get to know your teachers & counselors. These are the people who will be writing your letters of recommendation. Make of list of those you might ask to recommend you! School breaks are optimal but Juniors are allowed 4 excused absences for college visits. A campus visit is the best way to evaluate whether a school is right for you! Register to take the SAT (www.collegeboard.com) &/or the ACT (www.act.org) at least once or twice before senior year begins especially if you are planning on applying early. Get organized! Review college info/brochures that you are receiving & begin to narrow down your college list . Look carefully at college admissions requirements. Are your choices realistic? Look into summer jobs or apply for special academic or enrichment programs. Here’s a chart to help you get organized and weigh your options!
