Intelligence and Learning How we learn
Intelligence and Learning • Technical learners • 60% by doing • 30% by seeing • 10% by hearing • Soft skill learners • 50% by seeing • 35% by hearing • 15% by doing Two Types of Learners:
Intelligence and Learning • Visual – Learns by seeing, thinks in terms of pictures – stimulated by bright lights, big pictures, moderate amount of details • Auditory – Learns by verbal and instructional details, thinks in terms of sounds – stimulated by details, questions/answers, fonts and bolding effects on key points • Kinesthetic – Learns by participating and doing, thinks in terms of doing – stimulated by modeling, involvement, big picture with directional details. Lots of white space Three primary modes of learning:
Intelligence and Learning • Global – these learners see the big picture concepts and relationships quickly, then seek to fill-in the details • Linear – these learners are sequential, they need a reference point throughout instruction and will clarify details as they go Two secondary modes of learning:
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Logical – analyzes processes and has strong math ability
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Linguistic – reads and writes well
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Interpersonal – speaks effectively and responds to body language
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Musical – handles complex sounds, delineates and separates sounds
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Spatial – visualizes relationships of shapes and objects
Intelligence and Learning Type of Intelligence Kinesthetic – manipulates physical objects deftly, is very coordinated
Intelligence and Learning • 3 at high levels • 2 at backup levels • 2 at weaker levels Ranking of the seven types of intelligence
