喜欢打扑克牌的你可知道其中的奥秘? More than Playing Cards You like playing cards, but did you know how the different cards got their names? In the 13th century, playing cards were introduced to Europe. Their first European home was in Italy. The Italian deck had 78 cards, and four suits—the chalice, sword, money, and baton. After that, the French reduced the number
to 52 cards, and renamed the four suits—spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. The four suits mean the four seasons of the year. Each season has 13 weeks, and each suit has just 13 cards, including three face cards (king, queen, and jack) and 10 number cards from one (ace) to ten. Today, a deck of playing cards has two jokers. One is in black and white. It means the moon. The other is in full colour. It means the sun.

Pa raised his face to call out again. But before he could open his mouth, we heard the echo of an owl. “Whoo-whoo-who-who-who-whooooooo.” Pa smiled.
