Cecil County Judy Center Programs • Cecil County’s 2009-2010 Judy Center provided early childhood services for students from these areas, from birth through six years through the following programs: • 6 Full-day Kindergarten classrooms • 4 Pre-Kindergarten classrooms • 7 collaborative Special Needs/Head Start classrooms/sessions for three-year-old children • 1 Full-Day/Full-Year Head Start classroom • 1 Full-Day/Full-Year Family Education 3 year-old classroom • 1 Full-Day/Full-Year Family Education 4 Year-old Classroom • 2 Early Head Start classrooms • 3 Child Care Centers: Nancy’s Christian Learning Center ; Tender Care Learning; YMCA • 2 Family Childcares: Cindy and Robin • 1 Pre-K summer program for exiting special needs/pre-k students • 2 Pre-K summer science camp programs for Family Education Center and Head Start • 1 Kindergarten summer program for exiting special needs/kindergarten students

  3. Community Liaison Position • Facilitate Teacher Planning with Child Care Providers • Performs Fall, Winter, Spring Assessments in Child Care • Programs • Provides Teacher support • Facilitates Professional Development • Technical Support for MSDE Accreditation Training.AVI

  4. Instructional Observations • Family Education Center Preschool, Pre-K, and Elkton Judy Head Start Teachers visit Holly Hall & Gilpin Manor to promote consistency in instruction on an ongoing basis • Our program works to ensure that all programs are aligning the curriculum in the classrooms.

  5. Steering Committee • Meets monthly throughout the school year • Provides updates within the partnering programs • Discuss case management status • Promotes community resources • Presentations of new programs are provided • MMSR results are discussed and program goals are determined • Documentation and Tracking information is collected and discussed • Family events and opportunities are planned and discussed to work towards grant goals. • Judy Center Projects Committee meets prior to the steering committee to plan all family events for the year • Calendar Coordination is completed to avoid duplication of services/events

  6. 3 in 1 Workshop • Was developed as a result of our Family Survey that was distributed in Fall 2009 • Information requested regarding: • Financial – PNC Bank presented • Educational – Cecil College presented • Health/Nutrition – Cecil Co. Health Dept. presented • Floor was open to other service vendors such as: Child Care Links, Angel Food Network, Family Involvement Advisors from CCPS • Child Care was provided during info session which offered story time and activity in the children’s library 12 Families attended, one on one counseling was available during this workshop. We are planning to offer this type of workshop in the future based on the results of the family survey.

  7. School Readiness Fair • Yearly event that is open to Cecil County • Planned and organized by the Judy Center Projects Committee • 7 Domain tables are facilitated by CCPS Family Involvement Advisors or Teachers • Community Resources provide info on their services • Just this past spring, we were able to offer free screenings – Dental (Univ. of MD Dental Clinic) and Hearing (MRDC Head Start) • Milkshake performed a 30 minute educational show • Healthy snacks and water are provided • Resource packets are sent home with each family • This past spring, courtesy of Toys for Tots, we were able to send home 3 educational games with each family (Manners, Listening, Sharing) • Each family receives a children’s book to take home

  8. Head Start Education Advisory Committee • Program Coordinator has been invited to attend meetings • Worked as a team to align Head Start and CCPS curriculum. • Participated in a Head Start Review of their quarterly WWS data • Judy Center provides input regarding curriculum and assessments • Participated on site reviews during the Head Start Prism review • This year Head Start and CCPS will do joint observations of all Judy Center classes.

  9. Housing Agencies • Cecil County Housing Agency provides section 8 vouchers, financial counseling, default mortgage counseling and serves on JC Steering Committee • JC Program Coordinator serves on Family Self Sufficiency Coordinating Committee • Elkton Housing Authority provides residential communities in two Title 1 districts • JC works in collaboration to provide monthly story time through out the year and summer for the past four years in our Gilpin Manor area • This current grant we are able to also offer this story time at another development for Thomson Estates • Provides a member to our Steering Committee • Works closely with JC Case Manager to provide • and refer services such as housing, • school registration, parenting, necessities – • food, clothing, energy/electric, medical, • educational, jobs, health issues – dental…..

  10. Child Care Conference • Began in 2009 and will be a yearly event • JC Program Coordinator and CCPS Early Childhood Advisor serve key roles on the planning committee • Joint collaboration between Cecil College and CCPS • Open to all providers in Cecil and • Harford Counties • 157 attended last year, and expect 200 • this year • Workshop presentations provided by • CCPS staff and area specialists • 3 Full day sessions and 5 morning, • 5 afternoon sessions were offered • Participants received 6 “Core Knowledge” • continuing ed credits • Vendors on hand to offer info/resources available to child care programs
