  2. What is Chapter? • There are 37 Societies that make up the IEEE. • Chapters are the local extension of Technical Societies. • There are over 1400 Chapters around the world.

  3. Chapters in R10 • 280 Chapters (as of Dec.5 2005) • 8 sections have no chapter (we have totally 47 sections in R10) (10 sections in last year) • Sri Lanka Section had no chapter in 2004 but formed a chapter in 2005 • Hiroshima Section had no chapter in 2004 but formed a chapter in 2005

Goal for year 2005-2006 (1) • Support for the establishment of new chapters in Region 10 • Provide information about Chapter formation http://www.ieee.org/organizations/tab/ciachapop.html • 3 ways to form a Chapter • Send membership information of each society to section chair • This information can be used for chapter promotion

Chapter formation • New Society Chapter 12 higher-grade members in the same society • New Joint Chapter • Joint Chapter in a section • 12 higher-grade members in some related societies (minimum 3 for each society) • Joint Chapter of 2 or more contiguous Sections • 12 higher-grade members in a society • Expand an existing Chapter

  14. Membership information • The number of membership in each society • Societies including over 30 members are highlighted (candidates for chapter formation)

  15. Active Chapter • Validity • Minimum 10 Society Members in a year • Activity • Minimum Two (2) Meetings in a year • Report (to its parent Section : section secretary) • Current Officer Report • Financial Report • Meeting Report

Goal for year 2005-2006 (2) • Contact section chair of the section which has no chapter and recommend them to form a chapter • Contact chapter chair of inactive chapter and recommend them to reactivate it • Watch carefully about rejuvenation process of inactive chapters (prevent them from dissolution)

I appreciate your volunteer work for Chapter operation. From activity information distributed in rejuvenation subcommittee, your chapter had 0 meeting in year 2003 and 0 meeting in year 2004.(this information is as of this May. If you have already submitted report and had minimum 2 meetings in 2004, I am sorry for sending you this e-mail according to old information) Minimum 2 technical meetings are required for keeping a chapter active(please see Chapter Chair's Reference Guide pp.8: http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs/tab/cha/ccrefguide.pdf) I would like to encourage you to have minimum 2 technical meetings this year and submit financial report of 2005 on time(deadline will be February 2006). They will send a report of the second one.
