Dorset: The context • Two tier local government structure • Six district and borough Councils; two Home Improvement Agencies • All Councils have transferred their stock • High proportion of elderly residents and households with a disabled occupant • Demand exceeds the funding available (DFG) • A degree of standardisation across the County – shared lift procurement - etc

Background – Comprehensive Area Assessment Elements of Dorset's housing services received a ‘red flag’…… • Need for affordable housing • Concerns over quality of private rented sector and park homes • Accommodation for vulnerable households • The ‘strategic approach’. • Home improvement for disabled people “In some areas of the county it takes too long to make improvements to allow disabled people to live in safe and accessible homes”.

Background – Dorset’s response Bournemouth Dorset and Poole Strategic Housing Group - Action Plan ‘Reduce the time it takes to make improvements to allow disabled people to live in safe and accessible homes’ Action • Use whole systems mapping techniques • Include all partners • Improve systems and response times • Remove multi-agency duplication • Deliver a sustainable adaptations service
