Summary • Worked for Al this past summer • Contributing to Zg(g) group • Examining cross section of Zg(g) production • Introduced to MCFM program • NLO simulations • Using simulations to check how well cross section predictions line up with data (2012)
MCFM Progress • Have used MCFM to calculate systematic error involved with Zg NLO theory predictions • Have identified main contributors to systematic error. • QCD scales - • mrenorm– varies the energy at which the strong coupling constant is evaluated • mfact – varies the energy that evolves the parton content of the proton
Systematic Errors (Zg) Ds = ΔDs =
Systematic Errors (Zgg) Ds = ΔDs =
Progress/Plans • Next, we must consolidate individual systematic errors and calculate an overall error for the Zg cross section prediction • Then, reproduce Zgg runs that had unusual error and repeat above process for Zggsystematic error.
