Uses of O/IR Observations • Identification of new sources • SED distributions • Monitoring of time variability • Several of above
Uses of O/IR Observations • Identification of new sources • SED distributions • Monitoring of time variability • Several of above ALL involve time constrained observations e.g. non-classical scheduling

1.3m + ANDICAM • Dual channel O/IR imager (BVRIJHK) – Limiting mag ~22 in optical, ~18 in IR in 30m observation – small FOV. • Queue scheduling each afternoon (10-20 projects per night); on-the-fly interpolations possible for highest-priority projects • Processed data available before noon • ~30% time available to public through NOAO – potential for special arrangements with GLAST (also Gemini queue)
SMARTS Studies of Optical/IR Counterparts GRB 050730 GX 339-4 Cobb et al. 2006 GRB 060218 = SN 2006aj
Gaps in the “System” • 3m – 5m telescope with queue-based spectroscopy • Wide-field (>1 degree) queue-scheduled imaging • ReSTAR committee now accepting community input: http://www.noao.edu/system/restar
Two Approaches to Complementary Multi-wavelength Data • Centrally coordinated data available to entire community for general purposes – BVRIJHK magnitudes every few days for all LAT “sources of interest” • Specific programs for specific science goals to be carried out by the proposer
