  2. Our Mission To promote the quality of care, safety and security of people living in long-term care settings; To ensure facilities' compliance with state and federal laws and regulations; and To advocate on behalf of residents

  3. Who do we Protect? Men and Women Boys and Girls from a few weeks of age to over 100 years

  4. Population Growth

  5. Every 70 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease

  6. Where are They? At large residences which house 100 people or more and In small community based residences that house 3 or 4 people.

  7. What’s “Long Term”? Historically: many years or until the end of life Today : several days….. to end of life because of the prevalence of rehabilitative services and hospice care

  17. Licensing Section Disaster Preparedness Project CMS Grant $143,000 Contract with UD College of Health Sciences • To evaluate recent disaster experiences • To hold a conference for education and development of disaster preparedness plan

  18. Certified Nurse Assistants • Approve curriculum and oversight of the testing/certification process • Initiation of educational tracking system to regulate requirements 24 hours training minimum including statutory dementia training
